UMN Lecturer Team Successfully Received The 2nd Phase of The 2025 Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education Community Service Grant
September 3, 2025TANGERANG – On the 29th of August 2025, Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) conducted a sharing session on China’s Economic Transformation Toward Becoming a Leading Industrial Economic Power at the UMN campus. The sharing session invited Wang Yi, Associate Professor of Wuhu Vocational Technical University, China & Committee of China Technology Market Association, as the speaker.
“Today, it is an honor for me to share my knowledge with every lecturer. It is a very good day, and this (campus) is a very nice place,” Wang opened. He then proceeded to share some historical and monumental moments of China throughout the years.
Wang shared that China changed its strategies this year. China is not following the American and European ways and advice. Hence, this year, China’s GDP grew very fast despite experiencing troubles when the COVID-19 pandemic occurred. Secondly, China wants to be more involved in the World Trade Organization (WTO).
“This year, China will never depend on the USA, Europe, or anywhere else. Everything we use and all our products are ours,” Wang shared.
China’s Energy Production and Industrial Growth
Wang shared China’s latest best news, which is its electric power. In July 2025, China’s total electricity consumption surpassed the one trillion kilowatt-hour mark for the first time, reaching 1.02 trillion kilowatt-hours (kWh). This is impressive as electricity consumption is one of the most significant indicators of economic power, resilience, and stability. China is also the first country worldwide to have achieved this level of electric consumption.
“China’s one month equals to France and Germany’s electricity consumption all year round. China is the electric power, is the monster– industry monster,” Wang said.
China’s Global Trade Dynamics
Based on the United Nations’ (UN) industrial classification, China has a complete industrial system, with 41 major categories, 207 middle categories, and 666 small categories of industry.
“This is why America doesn’t like China. They want China to just be like a sales product and control China, but China doesn’t listen to America. So, we fight with China, a war in technology,” Wang said. He then proceeded to show and explain a city in China called Yiwu in Zhejiang province, where people can find every product they want, from common products to luxury bags to technologies.
China’s Governance and Public Participation
China’s politics is not focused on the economy, but people are put first.
“China is very clear about GDP, GDP is for the people. The main thing is for people to get the best life. You know, China have 1.5 billion people. China ensures that these people could get a happy and rich life. It took a lot of years and lots of pilot tests to find which way is correct,” Wang said.
A discussion regarding China’s political system also emerged. “In China, the political system used the communist system. In indonesia, there are many parties; it’s a democracy. What do you think is better? As in Indonesia, there are often demonstrations, and in China, that is not allowed,” a participant asked.
Wang shared that he sees many Indonesian fight with the government, but in China, the Chinese people send their advice online, and the government monitors and discusses those advices daily.
“The Chinese government will discuss every month or week to find a solution. Maybe you say (China) is not a democracy, but if you come to China, you will find China has democracy. They have meetings to discuss everything for the people. In China, the people and the service for people are first,” Wang explained.
Many other topics were discussed, such as China’s strategy in cooperation, exponential growth strategies in China, encouraging entrepreneurship amongst youth, research and academic contributions in China, and more. The public lecture went smoothly, with engaging Q&A.
“In real history, China is the leader of the world. But China doesn’t like to talk about the contribution of China, we always talk about the lost 400 years. The Chinese government objective is to become the number one of the world,” Wang ended his presentation.
