Creating Synergy with Alumni through The MIKOM 2024 Alumni Gathering

TANGERANG—The Master of Communication Science of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (Magister Ilmu Komunikasi/MIKOM UMN) organized the MIKOM 2024 Alumni Gathering with the theme “Alumni and Campus Synergy: The Strategic Role of the Alumni Association.” This event, held at UMN, strengthened the relationship between alumni, students, and campus.

This gathering was motivated by MIKOM UMN’s prestigious achievement of receiving the “Excellent” accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (Badan Akreditasi Nasional—Perguruan Tinggi/BAN-PT). This achievement is the fruit of the hard work and dedication of MIKOM UMN lecturers, students, and alumni.

The Head of the Master of Communication Science Program at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara, Dr. Agustinus Rusdianto Berto, M.Si., said that MIKOM UMN was only officially established in 2021. Even though it is still a relatively young program, MIKOM has made proud achievements. A few months ago, MIKOM obtained “Excellent” accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education, an excellent achievement for a university.

Dr. Agustinus emphasized that this success is inseparable from various parties’ great support and contribution, including the university, students, and alumni. Their best contributions have been in supporting the development of MIKOM UMN.

With the MIKOM 2024 Alumni Gathering event, Dr. Agustinus sees it as a momentum to celebrate this achievement. He calls this a form of gratitude and an effort to strengthen the bond between alumni, students, and the university in achieving common goals.

In addition, one purpose of holding this gathering is to socialize the existence of the UMN Alumni Family (Keluarga Alumni/KAMI) and the 2024 management regeneration plan. These cannot be separated because alumni collaboration can produce positive results for the university’s development.

Andre Rahadian, S.H., LL.M., M.Sc., who served as the Chair of the University of Indonesia Alumni Association (Iluni UI) from 2019 to 2022, provided an important perspective on the benefits of alumni associations. 

According to Rahadian, initiatives like this positively impact the university, students, alumni, and the entire campus ecosystem. Rahadian emphasized that the relationships built through alumni associations are expanding, opening up collaboration opportunities that have the potential to enhance the progress and reputation of educational institutions.

24 MIKOM UMN alumni and 51 active UMN students attended this warm meeting. They expressed their experiences during their studies and their hopes and suggestions for developing KAMI UMN. 

Ika Yanuarti, S.E., M.S.F, CSA, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, explained that KAMI UMN’s existence resulted from an initiative she initiated. She also expressed her appreciation for the contributions that alumni continue to make to the campus, which is considered one of the critical indicators in the accreditation assessment. 

She also highlighted KAMI UMN’s activities in contributing to the campus and the community through various activities such as library book donations, providing equipment for student activity units, community social activities, and disaster relief. As a form of appreciation, UMN also held an Alumni Achievement Awards event to honor the best contributions made by alumni.

It is hoped that this Alumni Gathering will allow alumni and the campus to synergize, impacting the university’s and graduates’ progress. Alumni can also learn about resources deemed capable of collaborating in the future.
