Many students may think that only students who are geniuses or achievers can receive scholarships, and that is very wrong! If you don’t have any achievements and feel that your grades are mediocre, you can still register and receive scholarships. Let’s see how to receive a scholarship without merit.
Tips for Getting a Scholarship Without Achievements
1. Do Plenty of Research
Don’t be lazy, and do plenty of research. Find out the different types of scholarships available! Do not rely on scholarships provided by your target campus. You can ask your campus about what scholarships students can take and start following various scholarship information provider accounts on social media. One of the best sources to get scholarships that do not require achievement are scholarships held by private parties such as companies, corporations, social institutions, and others. 2. Look for Government Scholarships
Scholarships from the government, such as the Smart Indonesia Card (Kartu Indonesia Pintar/KIP Kuliah), are one of the most popular non-achievement scholarships among students. KIP is a scholarship in the form of tuition assistance from the government for high school graduates or equivalent who have good academic potential but have economic limitations to continue to higher education. Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) is one of the campuses that accept KIP scholarships. To date, UMN has taken six KIP students to get full scholarships for four years!

3. Prepare The Complete Documents
This is more of a tip when applying for scholarships, don’t underestimate the process and completeness of the documents! Even if you are smart or outstanding, you may lose your chance to get a scholarship if you make a mistake or lack the required documents.
4. Write a Good Scholarship Writing/Essay
Many scholarship providers will ask students to write scholarship essays. One way to get a scholarship without achievements is to write a good and interesting scholarship essay! Through essays, scholarship providers can see your personality. So promote yourself well, but make sure you are realistic, don’t lie, and don’t be arrogant.
You can tell about the most challenging problems in your life and how you dealt with them. Scholarships tend to have a theme. If you can, adapt your essay to the scholarship theme. You have to be able to convince the scholarship provider that you deserve the scholarship!
5. Upgrade Your CV
When applying for scholarships, you will be asked to submit your Curriculum Vitae (CV). Make sure that you have tidied up and updated your CV. If you want, you can use services that can be found on the internet to help maximize your CV. No achievements to display? No problem. Showcase your organizational experience, internship, and work experience. If you have rich work or organizational experience, that experience can help you win a scholarship. Make sure you share your contribution to the company or organization.
6. Take Courses and Training
Slightly similar to looking for a job, the more experience and skills you have, the more you will be noticed by the company. Do you want to be a content writer? Take content writing courses, SEO content writing, copywriting, and others. Taking courses and training can show that you do not stop learning and continue to hone your skills. Of course, this can also beautify your CV.
In essence, 1st place or a perfect score is not the only way someone can receive a scholarship. There are many ways you can get a scholarship without merit. Scholarships apply to everyone. What is needed is consistency, perseverance, and patience.
